  1. Roaring Forty's boom broke, the boat motored to port and received outside assistance in repairing the boom.

  2. The boat was held in port when a gale warning was present at their port location.

  3. No other boats racing were affected by the same gale warning.

Roaring Forty broke RRS 41 (Outside Help).

Roaring Fortybroke rule 42 (Propulsion) in using their engine.

Decision

 

A penalty of 10% is to be added to the elapsed time of Roaring Forty for breaking RRS 41.

No penalty to be applied for breaking RRS 42.

As the boat was directed to not return to racing after repairs had been completed, the boat may be eligible for an adjustment by the Race Committee to their elapsed time as detailed in SI 8.1.
