Sailing Results

This system is designed to manage major regattas and runs entirely from a website. There is no need to download software to a local computer as everything is run through a browser. The advantage of this approach is that the system allows for a central repository of information (e.g. competitor's names in only one location) as well as multiple concurrent data entry (e.g. regatta office can be updating competitor names while the scorer is entering results from the finish boat, and the Jury is entering Rule 42 or Protest decisions) and distribution of outputs to multiple devices (e.g. SMS, smart phones, big screen displays).

The full system has the following components:

  • Online competitor entry with credit card payment
  • Online registration of volunteers, coaches, media
  • SMS of results/protests/general information to competitors and officials
  • Management of Protests, Rule 42 decisions
  • Management of Event Notices, e.g. Changes to Sailing Instructions
  • Multiple big screen displays of Protest cutoff times, Protest schedules, mark roundings, individual race results, overall race results, etc.
  • Automatic generation of Twitter messages
  • Automatic extraction of mark roundings, times, and final results from TracTrac real-time tracking system.
  • A version of the website optimised for viewing on iPhones and other smart phones.

The results system can handle multiple group allocation systems (Laser, 29er, 49er, 470) and has been successfully used at major World Championships and ISAF World Cup (Sail Melbourne, World Championships for 29er, 49er, 470, Dragon, Etchells, etc).

Using the results part of the system is optional, and the Jury/Rule42 components can be used successfully with other results system. See the following URL for an example [ click here ].

There are four separate passwords to allow people access to each of the main areas (event setup, results, jury, race committee).
