Hearing Number:

Event: Royal Brighton Yacht ClubRace Number: Twilight R12 01 Apr 2026
Protesting Boat: B1545Protested Boat: Race Committee / RO
Submitted Date/time:  02 Apr 2026 11:04
Hearing Details: Incorrect score

Facts Found

  1. The course to be sailed was Start-1-6-5-Finish

  2. The Sailing Instructions did not designate any marks as Rounding Marks

  3. In a dying breeze, the RC radioed that the race was to be shortened between number 6 and the Tower and displayed code flag S on the Tower

  4. Most boats sailed directly from 1 through the finish line

  5. Another Chapter completed a hook finish, crossing the line in the direction from 5 to Finish

  6. All boats were given a finish time and place

Conclusion

  • The RC made an error in shortening course at a Passing Mark, therefore no boats finished the race.

  • As per Case 32 "When a boat fails to finish correctly because of a race committee error, but none of the boats racing gains or loses as a result, an appropriate and fair form of redress is to score all the boats in the order they crossed the finishing line. "

  • Redress is to be awarded to all boats who crossed the finish line between 6 and the Tower.
