Hearing Details: Request for redress |
Facts Found | - Before the start of race 8. The RC vessel signalled a 3 lap race.
- At the end of lap 2, the leading boat sailed through the finish line, and the RC gave an auditory finishing signal.
- The rest of the fleet except for 2867 then followed and finish positions were recorded.
- 2867 continued to race toward the windward mark
- As 2867 was approaching the windward mar, the RC removed the windward mark
- 2867 then returned to the finish line
- 2867 crossed the finish line and her finish place was recorded
- The race was subsequently abandoned by the RC.
|
|
Conclusion | - By signalling that the first boat to cross the finish line had finished correctly the RC made an improper action.
- By removing the windward mark prior to all boats completing the course, the Race Committee made an improper action.
- By abandoning Race 8 the Race Committee significantly affected the race scores for all boats.
- 2867’s score and the score of all other boats were made significantly worse through no fault of their own by the improper actions of the Race Committee therefore the requirements for redress in RRS62.1 are met.
