Facts Found | - In race 5, boat 19 completed the two lap course and was scored for first place.
- In accordance with Sailing Instruction 14(c), the 10 minute finish window opened as boat 19 finished the race.
- When the finishing window opened, boat 3 was on her first lap and crossed the finishing line within the finishing window time and was scored for 5th place.
- When the finishing window opened, boats 22 and 13 were on their second lap, ahead of boat 3, but failed to cross the finishing line within the finishing time window.
- The order of the boats when they crossed the start/finish line when they finished the first lap was, first to last, 22, 13, 3.
- When the finishing window opened, no other boats were on their second lap.
- Boats 22 and 13 were scored DNF in accordance with Sailing Instruction 14.
|
|
Conclusion | - The Sailing Instructions allow for a boat ahead of another to be scored DNF and the boat behind to be given a finishing place.
- Boats 22 and 13's scores in race 5 were made significantly worse through no fault of their own by an omission of the Organising Authority.
- The fairest arrangement possible for all boats affected is to score boats 22, 13 and 3 in their position on the course at the end of their first lap, which includes adjusting the score of boat 3.
