Hearing Decision

1. Approaching the windward mark on the third beat, boat 6 capsized briefly, and recovered without either crew member or another boat making contact with the mainsail.


2. On righting, the second panel of the mainsail from the top was found to have separated.


3. Boat 6 retired from the race and waited for advice from a rescue boat.


4. Following advice from the rescue boat, boat 6 sailed ashore.

The score of boat 6 in race 3A was made significantly worse by the failure of equipment supplied by the organizing authority, through no fault of her own.

The competitor was offered the option of breakdown points or a make-up race, andopted to sail race 3B as a make-up race, as provided in Sailing Instruction 16.7.
