Outcome of racing for the Charles Derham Memorial Trophy, Spry Series Race 4 - 10 February 2024

The Race Committee advises that race 4 of the Spry Series, the Charles Derham Memorial Trophy, has been abandoned in accordance with RRS 32.1 (d). While it is regrettable to abandon a race after boats have started, sailed the course, and finished, this decision has been made with due consideration of the fairness of competition for all boats in the race and the series.

After careful consideration and advice from a series of subject matter experts including International Judges and AS Rules specialists it is apparent that the Race Committee made an error in notifying competitors of the change to the keelboat courses which resulted in boats sailing the incorrect course and significantly affecting their scores in the race. The error in question was the failure of courses to display correctly on the official noticeboard, the BYS Sailing Hub. There was no fault on the part of the competitors.

The Charles Derham Memorial Trophy has been scheduled for re-sail on Saturday 27 April, 1000hrs warning signal, as per Notice to Competitors 7.
