We had a great turnout for the last passage aggregate, the presentation lunch was awesome and we’re taking the Mother’s Day weekend off before we start the Winter Series.

We’re looking forward to a reboot as the last few years were affected by lockdowns or renovations. Racing is Sundays 21 & 28 May and 4 & 11 June

We’ve had lots of discussions across teams and sailors about the series and three themes keep popping up.

Crews

  • Getting crew – or willing skippers - is more difficult so there are some people that feel like orphans.
  • This is exacerbated in Div 1 that sail with bigger crews.
  • We’ve reset “Crew Matching” in the sailing hub, so if you are available to crew or looking to crew, please add a listing.
  • Handicaps will generally not be adjusted for crew changes in this series, and it doesn’t affect your handicap for next season. - You can think outside the box.

Good Racing

What is good racing for the winter series – Fixed courses, box starts, windward leeward, triangles passage race?

  • It will really depend on the conditions and who is racing – So we will have a mix of course format options and as we get a picture for the day we will be able to work out what’s best for the fleet.
  • One comment we are mindful of is to have good racing but manage complexity / intensity if boats are sailing with shorter, new or less experienced crew.
  • 1000 briefings for 1100 Warning signals – about 70 minutes racing, on the shorter side if the conditions are difficult.

Social / Clubhouse

  • It’s great being back at the club and a lot warmer than the temporary clubhouse last year.
  • We’re recently rolled out some “Sailor Centric" food offerings specifically for regattas that were well received.  Our teams are working on that again for the Winter Series and there will be more news to come on that.
  • Racing is Sunday mornings so you’ve still got a lot of Sunday left for other life and family commitments.
